One year ago today, the city of Sunnyvalle, California, on orders from Judge Brian Walsh, took the life of a beautiful dog named Lucy. Please click here to read a testament to that horrible act on another blog.
Thank you for remembering Lucy on this anniversary of her wrongful death. Lucy was executed at an animal shelter by callous people who betrayed the animals for whom they are supposed to speak.
Lucy, we shall never forget you.

The Town That Killed Lucy at Christmas
On December 20, 2007, shortly before 6:00 p.m. (PST), a gentle, beloved six-year old dog named Lucy was killed in the Humane Society Silicon Valley animal shelter by order of Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Brian Walsh. By order of the Sunnyvale city attorney, David Kahn, who prosecuted Lucy under the Dangerous Dogs Act at the trial, Lucy's guardians request to be with her when she was killed was denied. Lucy's only crimes were that she was a dog and a so-called pit bull dog. To read Lucy's sad story and to learn more about what you can do to prevent this unethical crime committed in the name of the people from ever happening again, please visit one of the many sites that were set up in an attempt to save her. What happened to Lucy is no reflection at all on the good citizens of Sunnyvale. Indeed, many of them rallied to Lucy's support, but their elected mayor and City Council members turned away. Unfortunately, Sunnyvale's public officials had woefully inadequate laws and policies to work within. Other public officials had agendae of their own in Lucy's case, which Lucy was made to pay for with her life. A massive international effort was launched to save Lucy (e.g., 12,000 individuals signed a petition over a 24-hour period), but City Attorney David Kahn, Mayor Otto Lee, the five City Council Members, Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger and Judge Brian Walsh all ignored that effort and killed Lucy. Lucy had spent the the last five months of her life in a small cage at the animal shelter, allowed only two short visits a week from her guardians. Her guardian's were not permitted to be with her when she died and it believed that her body was not handed over to them for a proper burial. As the result of Lucy's death, many other dogs in Sunnyvale are sure to meet similar fates, now that the public officials --- starting with Police/Animal Control Chief Don Wilson, who signed Lucy's death warrant --- have been emboldened by their "success" in Lucy's case. We, the citizens of other places outside of Sunnyvale, must help the pet owners and dogs of Sunnyvale so that this does not happen there. And if it happens again in Sunnyvale, it is sure to happen everywhere.

PEACE* on Earth.
